"When in Exile, do": In celebration of my 68th birthday I went to South Bass Island, Ohio for a week from September 5 - 12, 2021. I stayed in a cabent, a combination cabin/tent - mainly a tent by virtue of its roof. Not having any friends who would go with me I was alone in accomodations for 4. I took a few things with me recently purchased at a thrift store that included a mini-guitar. It was my intention to make a movie called "bent" in honor of the last 4 letters of "cabent". It was also my intention to technically manipulate the images post-production to make them bent. Practicing the mini-guitar, which I'd never played before, was a priority. Other than that I had no plan. Once I got there it immediately struck me that I felt like I was in exile for being a Thought Criminal & the plot improvisationally grew from there. The thought of "bent" as a character assassination defamation of myself deepened the meaning.
An unanticipated aspect of things was that I wrote 3 songs while I was there: "Heresy", "Holograms", & "When in Exile, do". Songwriting is low on my list of musical activities so my writing these is unusual for me. Having finished "bent" as a very large HD file I have been unable to upload it to either my onesownthoughts YouTube channel or to the Internet Archive - the 2 places where I generally make my movies available to the public. Because of this, I've decided to put the 3 songs online. Each song has a little more of "bent" contextualizing it so that the interested person can get somewhat of a revelation of the plot from "When in Exile, do". This latter makes passing mention of my "show trial" for being a "thought criminal". At this fictional show trial, 2 psychotherapists are presented as having testified as 'expert witnesses': one for me, one against me. The person testifying for me is presented as a friend who I've written the song for in honor of her birthday. &, yes, I realize that the Roman Empire didn't exist in 1974BC & that the ancient Romans didn't invent the golf cart.
